Try a virtual dementia experience to learn what it is like to have dementia (brain failure), Although Alzheimer's disease accounts for 60 to 70% of cases, it is not the only type of dementia. "Dementia" is not a mental health disorder. Dementia is brain failure that can occur with a urinary tract infection, a stroke or a brain anuerysm. Brain failure happens to celebrities and in your community.

Bruce Willis was diagnosed with Frontal temporal dementia. Robin Willams had Lewy Bodies dementia. Glen Campbell and Ronald Reagan died with Alzheimer's disease. Other types of brain failure include Huntington's disease, Vascular dementia, "Aids Brain," Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (a rare, rapidly fatal brain disorder caused by infectious misfolded proteins), Huntington's disease (a genetic disorder causing the breakdown of nerve cells, which impacts both physical movement and cognitive/psychiatric health) and Parkinson's disease.

Dementia is often a hidden disability. There are people who drive and shop in your grocery store who are living with dementia. Brain failure effects vision, hearing, problem solving, sensory perception and fine motor control but, in the early stages, you might not notice the changes that are occurring.

There are more than 80 types of dementia. Some types of dementia are permanent and incurable; however, some types of dementia are temporary. In any case, the response to dementia is always POSITIVE. Brain failure can happen to anyone. You might know people in your own neighborhood who are living with dementia but it is not obvious to you.
