Activities for Meaningful Days and Moments of Joy

The creative part of the brain can remain undamaged for years through the course of dementia.
Engagement in creative activities provides joy, stimulation, and meaning. Choosing activities to create moments of joy doesn't happen by accident. The Care partner must not only consider the person's interests but also the level of dementia.
Activities that the person once enjoyed might no longer be interesting because they lack the ability to perform; therefore, the activity is no longer rewarding. In order for days to be meaningful, the caregiver should introduce activities that are productive, incorporate elements of leisure, give the person the opportunity to rejuvenate and to be independent during self-care. The Caregiver should consider the type of support that will be required and prepare the person living with dementia for success.
