The "SOS" in "Dementia SOS" stands for "Strategies Offer Solutions."  Our new website (www.DementiaSOS.com) is organized by: education, resources, tools and Blogs which provide you with a wealth of strategies.  The information presented is designed to help Care partners navigate the challenges and rewards of helping a person who is living with dementia (brain failure).  We frequently add information to the website; this Newsletter contains information added this month.

TEEPA SNOW HAS A NEW APP GEMS® DEMENTIA STAGES ABILITY MODEL

Teepa Snow, dementia expert and educator, created her Positive Approach to Care and her GEMS State Model more than 20 years ago. Now you can have Teepa on your I-phone or I-pad whenever you need her.

DIAGNOSING DEMENTIA

If you suspect you or someone you know might have dementia (brain failure), ask yourself two questions:

1. Is there a change in cognition? and

2. Has the change in cognition become serious enough to interfere with daily life?

MANAGING CHALLENGING SITUATIONS

The person living with brain failure (dementia) sees the world differently. It seems as if you can simply reason with him/her, but your reality is no longer their reality.  They cannot change - but you can.
