The 'Family' in 'Dementia Family Pathways' refers to the
'Family' of '80+ Types of Brain Failure' and
the 'Pathways' to living your best life.
There are 80+ types of dementia including Alzheimer’s disease, Huntington’s disease, Lewy Body dementia, Parkinson’s disease, Frontal temporal dementia and Vascular dementia.
On 12.7.23, Teepa will discuss brain changes associated with dementia and what Care partners can do to love people living with dementia = brain failure. Common resources for dementia and for Parkinson's disease include Neurologists where people receive their differential diagnosis.
Many people living with dementia and Parkinson's disease receive their first differential diagnosis from a Neurologist.
The evaluation will typically include a thorough medical history, a physical and neurological examination, a psychiatric and neuropsychological evaluation, and laboratory testing.
Patients with severe memory loss, as well as their families and caregivers, face multiple issues and must sometimes make difficult decisions. Neurologists at our two Memory Disorders Clinics in NWFL offer counseling and help patients and families navigate these choices.
There are resources for Parkinson's disease, such as Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS), Lee Silverman's Voice Treatment (LSVT) LOUD - (Speech Therapy) - and LSVT BIG (Physical Therapy) with promising research for other neurologic disorders. People living with Parkinson's disease often experience difficulty initiating and with executive function. Common resources such as: music, singing, dance and creativity are valuable resources for meaningful days and moments of joy for people living with dementia AND with Parkinson's disease. Resources for dementia and for Parkinson's disease can be found on the Bridges of Care website: www.BridgesOfCare.org
